Butternut Squash Soup

While in Whole Foods the other day, I was intrigued by their selection of fall squash.  I picked up a carnival squash (which I had no idea what it was but it was so pretty I bought it), roasted in the oven with a little brown sugar and butter (like I've done with acorn squash in the past) and had with grilled chicken—delicious!

Gift-Bags Are Lazy ... Wrap A Box!

I have a slight obsession with wrapping presents. Sometimes my gifts are better on the outside than they are on the inside! Yesterday I wrapped a gift for a baby shower that I am going to this weekend for one of my dear friends and her soon-to-be-son and I thought that you might want to see how I put it together!

Healthy Breakfast and Lunch

We recently spent a weekend in Boston and it seems like all we did was eat (much like every vacation we go on!)—days filled with oysters, lobster rolls, clam chowders and hot dogs at baseball games. Needless to say, when we got home I was ready to get back into our regular routine of healthy (and simple) eating. I love fine dinning at restaurants but honestly would rather eat a home cooked meal.

Window Shopping Down Franklin's Main Street

With the seasons changing, I am suddenly energized to spruce up my home. Running down Franklin's Main Street yesterday, I had to stop and peer into some of my favorite home stores for a little inspiration. Franklin is chock-full of amazing boutiques and shops that I love to frequent. These are just some of my favorite home stores on Main Street. Here's a map to help when you go!

Lasagna Night

Most nights we eat grilled chicken or fish with rice and vegetables. As the weather starts to get cooler though, I crave comfort food. Casseroles and one-pot dinners with layers of favor that warm the soul. Nothing does that quite like lasagna. It's the meal that everyone remembers their mom making growing up. It's warm, comforting and, well ... delizioso!

The Martha Challenge: The Redesign and 4 To-Do's

I have always loved Martha Stewart Living and have a library of back issues in my office to prove it. Looking back through them, I found a Valentine's issue from February 2002 with a chocolate meringue tort on the cover. Even back then the beauty found in something so simple, so elegant amazed me. Maybe this was the start of my magazine obsession. It definitely pushed me to love food and love styling my everyday.

Snap, Crackle, BOOM! Scotcheroos

With the Labor Day weekend behind us and (more importantly) Starbucks serving their Pumpkin Spice Latte, fall is upon us. The mornings are feeling cooler, the days are getting shorter and I find myself fighting the urge to dip apples in caramel and buy mums at Lowe's. I've already been looking up pumpkin flavored baking recipes in preparation!

Tea Party: If Teacups Could Talk

As a little girl my grandmother (whom we affectionately call "Honey Mama") would host tea parties in her kitchen for me and my cousins. She had a small tea table and chairs that were just our size that she would set with her fine china and silver tea set. She'd bring a vase full of flowers in from her Williamsburg garden and make tea sandwiches, cheese and crackers and always had an assortment of gourmet cookies (I vividly remember Mint Milanos).

Macaroons: Too Pretty To Eat?

Macaroons are as pretty as they are sweet. I have been looking for years for the perfect ones made here in Nashville with little to no success. FINALLY they have arrived! The Painted Cupcake in Green Hills has started making the most delicious and delightfully beautiful macaroons. Their macaroon baker, Drue Madow, makes them perfectly fluffy with a crisp outer shell and a soft chewy interior (just as it should be). Her flavors change all the time and I still can't decide which is my favorite!
