When I was little, my mom worked as a floral designer. I grew up cutting Queen Anne's Lace with her on the side of the road, de-thorning roses, taking trips to the wholesaler, and watching her create huge beautiful arrangements for weddings. She taught me so much and recently we had a blast collaborating to create a flower arranging how-to for Your Williamson Magazine.
As summer slides into fall, I find myself savoring the flavors of the sunny season. I am truly enjoying the last of the peaches, squash and corn until they come again next June. Late summer tomatoes, fresh herbs and citrus fill the final hot weeks. As the days get shorter, I am craving quick and easy meals that are not only light and fresh but feel special and celebratory as we say goodbye to summer.
Among my favorite things about being a kid were the campfires my family built on cool summer evenings. I remember how we would search the yard for the perfect sticks that we would later use to toast fluffy marshmallows. Once their snow-white skins turned golden brown and their insides gooey, we'd sandwich them together with chocolate bars between graham crackers and devour the fire-kissed confections always asking for “s’more.”
I'm so excited for the weekend: The Farmer's Market, dinner with friends and family in from out of town! Here's my favorite finds this Friday.
It's been a little while since I've posted my Friday faves ... we've been traveling a bit and I've gotten a little off track. I'm back and totally inspired by the Spring that feels like it's ALMOST here. My tulips and daffodils are blooming and Easter is just around the corner. It makes me crave color and light and fresh meals that we can enjoy on the patio.
This year when YOUR Williamson magazine asked me to design an Easter table for their April issue I was thrilled because I adore Easter! I totally have my grandmother to blame ... it's her favorite too. Growing up, I remember Easter Egg hunts in her Williamsburg boxwood garden, beautiful Easter dresses (one year I even wore a matching hat), family photos and lunch after church around her long dinning room table.
Sorry I've been a little MIA this week. I have locked myself in my house to cook, style and photograph an upcoming cookbook. Can't wait for you to see it but for now everything is under wraps (get sneak peeks as I go on my Instagram ... shhh!). Here's what I'm crazy about this week!
A lot of my favorite blogs do a Friday wrap up. I find so many things throughout the week that I want to share with you that I thought it might be fun to join the crowd and bring you some of my favorite finds on Fridays. Let the "Friday Finds" begin!
