Jacobs' birthday was this past week and I always make him a birthday cake. His favorite is yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Since we recently took a trip to New York, I have been inspired to make a cake that tastes like Magnolia Bakery's famous cupcakes. There is something so perfect about their cake's light sweet vanilla flavor and the buttery consistency of their icing.

I jumped at the chance to host a baby shower for one of my best friends and decided to celebrate her and her soon-to-be-son with a watercolor themed shower.
This is a great pound cake to give as a gift (just wrap in a tea cloth with a piece of kitchen twine or ribbon). I took it up to my in-laws farm just out of the oven and we couldn't get enough of it. The hint of lemon is refreshing, honey is sweet and the blueberries add a refreshing bite to the dense cake.
There is something that we can all make in our sleep—something that when guests are coming over, we can whip up in a jiffy and know that it will turn out perfectly every time. Chocolate chip cookies are my go-to, reliable, crowd-pleasing winner. I can make them with my eyes closed, have the recipe memorized (it's super easy) and always have the ingredients in my pantry.
