Thanksgiving Table: Making the Fall to Christmas Transition

Thanksgiving Table: Making the Fall to Christmas Transition

Thanksgiving Table - so elegant!

We put up our Christmas tree on November 1st this year—a little later than usual … I think Jacobs would have it up year round if I let him. It made my beautiful fall table (check it out here), which I was planning on having up for Thanksgiving, feel totally out of place. Pumpkins and a Christmas tree? Not so much.

I decided that instead of an entirely new table setting that I would just change a few key items. With little effort, it was totally transformed into a holiday table that is perfectly appropriate for Thanksgiving and compliments my Christmas decor.

I started by removing all pumpkins, acorns and cabbage. I bought some mercury glass hurricanes from West Elm to replace the jar of candles and pumpkin planters I made. I think that mercury glass really adds some glitz and glamour while still keeping that sort of rustic charm. I intertwined some cotton throughout the center arrangement and placed fresh pomegranates from the grocery throughout.

The pinecones, wooden pieces, mercury glass votives and buckeyes remained. Even the shape of the table's centerpiece is the same with the same branches coming out of the center hurricane.

I even kept the same Woodland Spode dishes out—the browns and rustic nature of the dishes still appeal to the holiday table.

I introduced a new table runner (instead of the burlap that was on the fall table). I took a vintage European flour sack and split the two side seems to create a runner. I love the red stripe down the middle. It brought just that touch of red I was looking for and ties the entire look together.
