Styling My Everyday intersects Katie Jacobs’ love for food and design
The graphic designer, photographer and stylist is a self-proclaimed homebody. She pauses in the hustle and bustle of daily life to bake friends’ birthday cakes and chocolate chip cookies for her husband, “Jacobs.” Whether she’s making dinner for her family or hosting an impromptu dinner party for friends, cooking is her love language. Entertaining is the way she connects.
As a regular contributor to Nashville Lifestyles, Style Blueprint, Your Williamson and The Scout Guide it’s only fitting that her life emulates a magazine spread. She is a fourth generation Nashvillian who grew up in the kitchen. Her mother prepared chicken potpie, turkey divan and yeast rolls. She schooled Katie in the art of Southern cuisine. The family swapped stories and jokes over steak and potatoes at their lake house.
Her grandmother, Kathleen, inspired her love of formal dinner parties and honed her sweet tooth. Katie always admired the way her grandmother provided a personal touch to her parties by adding place cards, centerpieces and floral arrangements. It honed Katie’s eye for design, which she studied in college as a graphic design major. This mindset helped her thrive at VIP Franklin Magazine where, fresh out of school, she worked as the art director. Afterwards, she became the web editor and subsequently, creative director of Nashville Lifestyles. She’s produced and styled cover stories for Sheryl Crow, The Band Perry, Little Big Town, Luke Bryan, Martina McBride and American Pickers star Mike Wolfe. After five years, she departed to pursue a freelance career. Harper Collins Christian Publishing quickly snapped her up and she began styling and photographing her first cookbook, to be released in October 2014. In the interim, Katie is writing and illustrating a children’s book, and is contributing her photography skills to a home décor manuscript.
As her imagery suggests, the home is Katie’s sanctuary and place to reset. She is a traditionalist at heart who makes delicious meals and elegant décor appear effortless. It is through Styling My Everyday that she indulges her artistic, feminine and domestic sides. She has carved out her aesthetic as the self-coined “perfect mess.” It is both lovely and lived-in, where fondness for homemade, heirloom and local all take center stage.
“My home is comfortable, tailored and clean with lots of personality,” she explains. “Modern light fixtures, hand-crafted farm tables, and a moose head on the wall.”
At heart, Katie is a wanderer who consciously slows down to reap inspiration from all corners of her life. Farmers, flea markets and chatting up local artisans cause new ideas to constantly flutter through her imagination. “I am always taking pictures, asking bartenders how a drink was made, and waking up from a dream to jot down an idea,” she explains. “If you’re open and available, inspiration is all around.”
