Styling My New York City

Styling My New York City

The Standard

Over the weekend I went to New York City to visit my baby sister, Abby, at NYU. We had such a great time bopping around the city that I thought I would share a couple highlights from my trip.

On our last trip to New York, we stayed at The Soho Grand and loved it. This time I stayed at The Standard in The East Village because it is just a couple of blocks from my sister's dorm. While my room was very small, it was really comfortable—the bed was amazing (which is so important when traveling) and right now they offer breakfast in the Penthouse, which is worth going just for the view.

I got there before my sis got out of class so I had a couple of hours to myself. I strolled down Bleecker Street (one of my very favorite shopping streets in NY), stopped in Marc Jacobs and Curious and ultimately ended up at Magnolia Bakery. You knew it would happen. I can't resist. I bought six cupcakes and let my sister have one. :)

Once Abby and Evan got out of class we headed to dinner at Comodo, a Latin American restaurant in the East Village. We ended up with the best seat in the house—in the window which was so comfortable and quiet. We loved the Pao De Queijo (lamb) Sliders, Roasted Cauliflower Gratin,  Day Boat Scallops and Whole Brook Trout. The ambiance was great the the food was delightful.

Rachel Zoe

On Saturday we rushed to a Rachel Zoe sample sale at Chelsea Market. We got the most amazing deals on the most beautiful clothes. At more than 75% off, I got this suede dress in army green and an adorable pair of sandals. Abby scored these ridiculous motorcycle boots and cape. We couldn't believe the deals!

Tea at BG

After buying designer clothes at rock bottom prices, we headed Uptown to look at designer clothes at prices we couldn't afford. ha! We had reservations for High Tea at Bergdorf Goodman's GB. We requested the Whispering Chairs and had the most amazing time snacking on finger sandwiches and sipping hot tea. We both agreed that this was our new favorite NYC tradition and I can't wait to go back many more times years to come.

Lafayette and MUD

Speaking of snacking … we also had brunch both days (because brunch is so chic in the city). Abby took me to MUD Coffee, which at first glance is a dive but their brunch ended up being not only affordable but really delicious (get the French Toast). On Sunday, we went to Lafayette (same owner as one of my favs, Locanda Verde)—be sure to get the Lemon Pancakes and Nutella Waffles. Need I say more?

ABC and Fish Eddy

We continued our shopping excision on Sunday with my two new favorite destinations EVER. Abby took me in ABC Carpet & Home and I was mesmerized by seven floors of the most luxurious home decor. Just the first floor is worth the trip; full of home accessories, fashion and jewelry from all around the world. They also were decorated for Christmas in mostly whites and glitter. Gush!

She also introduced me to Fishs Eddy which was like the home section of Anthropologie but ALL kitchen. Vintage plates stacked to the ceiling, rows and rows of glasswear, adorable linens, rustic storage ... I mean, can I move in!? I almost tried to carry this glass jar home for dog treats in my purse but decided I would just order it online (along with a bunch of other goodies).

We had the most fun—I adore New York in the fall! Thanks Abby for having me—can't wait til next time!
